Nectar and pollen attractants as well visitors in Helleborus viridis ssp. H. purpurascens (Ranunculaceae), i.e. European species, were studied during two flowering seasons. The long-lived flowers of these species are characterized by long nectar availability lasting 15-17 days, until the end presentation. On average, approx. 2-fold more sugar mass was available compared to purpurascens. Both protogynous, having an initial female phase for 3 days. consistently male-biased. At flower's life span, concentration decreased considerably. In both sucrose predominated nectar, which also contained small quantities other disaccharides (maltose trehalose) monosaccharides (glucose fructose). chemical composition varied between sexual phases; female-phase replaced mainly fructose. addition offered (between 2 4 10-17 days anthesis). study area, foraged queens bumble bees honey bees; however, their distribution differed species. Bumble dominated subsp. viridis, whereas pollinator groups noted with a similar frequency
