Abstract The genesis of heavy metal contamination in arable soils is complex, and scientifically identifying risks precisely analyzing sources are essential for safely using contaminated land. In this study, we systematically evaluated the pollution characteristics Cu, Zn, As, Hg, Cd, Pb, Ni, Cr soil, then applied APCS-MLR PMF models to jointly analyze their contributions. results showed that concentrations eight metals were significantly higher than background values Yunnan Province, exhibiting clear spatial heterogeneity. overall level ranged from mild severe, with Cd Pb being most critical contaminants. Four major (industrial transportation, parent material, agriculture, mining) identified through dual modeling approach. both corroborated each other, accuracy analysis was improved compared a single method. This study not only provides scientific basis safe utilization land western Yunnan, an area complex soil contamination, but also offers generalized framework source areas affected by geological-anthropogenic composite pollution.
