Rapid urbanization and changing land use dynamics require robust tools for projecting analyzing future scenarios to support sustainable urban development. This study introduces an integrated modeling framework that combines the Patch-generating Land Use Simulation (PLUS) model with Markov Chain (MC) analysis simulate cover (LULC) changes Montreal Island, Canada. leverages historical data, scenario-based adjustments, spatial drivers, providing planners policymakers a tool evaluate potential impacts of policies. Three scenarios—sustainable, industrial, baseline—are developed illustrate distinct pathways Montreal’s development, each reflecting different policy priorities economic emphases. The MC-PLUS achieved high accuracy level, overall 0.970 Kappa coefficient 0.963 when validated against actual data from 2020. findings indicate policies foster more contiguous green spaces, enhancing ecological connectivity, while industrial-focused promote clustering commercial industrial zones, often at expense spaces. underscores model’s as valuable decision-support in planning, allowing scenario-driven exploration LULC precision. Future applications enhancements could expand its relevance across diverse contexts globally.

Urban expansion encroaches on green spaces and weakens ecosystem services, potentially leading to a trade-off between ecological conditions socio-economic growth. Effectively coordinating the two elements is essential for achieving sustainable development goals at urban scale. However, few studies have measured urban–ecological linkage in terms of trade-off. In this study, we propose framework by linking degraded land use efficiency from return investment perspective. Taking rapidly expanding city as case comprehensively quantified four aspects: heat island, flood regulating service, habitat quality, carbon sequestration. Industrial lands, as a key component of economic development, pose great environmental challenges, which underscores the need for close global monitoring to support sustainable urban development. Despite this importance, city-level maps industrial land use, especially over multiple years, have been lacking. Here, we present 10-m resolution dataset tracking use in 1,093 large cities (area 100 km² or more) from 2017 2023. Using multisource geospatial data and machine learning, achieves high overall accuracy 91.87% 92.21% across seven-year period, aligning well with official city maps. We further validated its reliability by computing area per capita cities, correlated strongly CO2 emissions (r = 0.72). These offer valuable tool changes assessing their impact on ecosystems. The is critical resource studying links between industrialization, urbanization, sustainability while providing insights policymakers balancing priorities.

Urban energy consumption is mostly concentrated in industrial regions, and carbon emissions from land use have significantly increased as a result of fast urbanization industrialization. In the battle against climate change, affluent regions developing countries are increasingly being used models for reducing emissions. Therefore, order to accomplish global sustainable development, it crucial understand how decoupled wealthy areas rising nations. This study investigates decoupling effects factors influencing them six East Chinese provinces one city between 2005 2020 using Tapio model LMDI decomposition approach. At same time, 2021 2035 were predicted BP neural network combined with scenario analysis. The findings indicate that: (1) From 29.921 million tons 40.2843 2020, China area nearly doubled. Of these, Shandong Jiangsu emit more than half region's total around China. (2) effect analysis shows trajectory's phased characteristics, degree gradually increasing weak (2006-2012) strong (2013-2018) finally negative (2019-2020). (3) primary causes rise region scale per capita economic output use. (4) overall peak time roughly distributed 2028 2032. It expected that Shanghai, Shandong, Jiangsu, Zhejiang will be among first achieve emission peak.
