The ubiquitous presence of phenolic compounds in effluents poses a risk to aquatic organisms and human health. This study investigates the responses emerging algal-bacterial granular sludge process treating wastewater. results showed that phenol at 1, 10, 100 mg/L had little effect on ammonia-N, chemical oxygen demand (COD), phosphate-P removal. At highest concentration mg/L, average removal rates COD, were 94.8%, 72.9%, 83.7%, respectively. led decline chlorophyll content sludge, concurrently resulting an increase abundance microbial diversity. Algal-bacterial exhibited mechanisms such as elevated extracellular polymeric substances (EPSs), superoxide dismutase (SOD), catalase (CAT) production, which may aid coping with oxidative stress from phenols. research underscores sludge’s potential for wastewater, thereby advancing knowledge field degradation this innovative technology.

The cooperation between microalgae and bacteria can enhance the carbon fixation efficiency of microalgae. In this study, a microalgae-bacteria coexistence system under high-concentration CO2 stress was constructed, bacterial community structure entire analyzed using 16S rDNA technique. Microbacterium sp., Bacillus Aeromonas sp. were screened demonstrated to promote in Chlorella vulgaris HL 01 (C. 01). Among them, + C. experimental group exhibited most significant effect, with an increase about 24% final biomass yield daily 245% (day 7) compared control group. Continuous cultivation symbiosis showed that could utilize compounds secreted by for growth produce nutrients maintain vitality Detection extracellular organic microorganisms culture broth excitation-emission matrix spectral analysis revealed utilized aromatic proteinaceous others produced new required 01. metabolic substances liquids groups liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry, it found 31 unique bacteria, 136 produced. Oxygenic photogranules mainly composed of cyanobacteria and heterotrophic bacteria, have gained attention for their ability to treat wastewater (removal C, N, P) without external aeration. Currently, the metabolic dynamics varying nutrient light conditions in treatment systems remains poorly studied. However, understanding how quickly photogranule metabolism changes, whether this change is temporary or permanent important optimal use photogranules. Here, an NMR-based metabolomics approach was applied investigate temporal presence absence acetate with light. Our findings revealed that under carbon-limited conditions, relied on alternative carbon sources, such as N-acetylneuraminate (a constituent EPS) amino acids like hypotaurine L-alanine. This adaptation affected key pathways, including glycolysis, taurine metabolism, tricarboxylic acid cycle. When provided, both phototrophic activities were maintained. Notably, history supply influenced responded shifts. Metabolic indicators showed lag addition altered fatty fixation, leading shifts concentrations distinct profiles when turned off. Thus, NMR identified induced by contrasting lasting several hours, significantly affecting response fluctuations. These results suggest supplementation may shape responses other environmental changes stressors.
