Ecoevolutionary dynamics of the gut microbiota at macroscale level, that is, in across-species comparisons, are largely driven by ecological variables and host genotype. The repeated explosive radiations African cichlid fishes distinct lakes, following a dietary diversification context reduced genetic diversity, provide natural setup to explore convergence, divergence repeatability patterns as function diet, phylogeny environment. Here we characterized 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing 29 species from two lakes/radiations (Tanganyika Barombi Mbo) across broad phylogenetic range. Within each lake, significant deviation between carnivorous herbivorous lifestyle was found. Herbivore were an increased bacterial taxonomic functional diversity converged key compositional community aspects. Despite lake effect on structure, this process has occurred with remarkable parallels lakes. A metabolic signature most likely explains trend, indicated enrichment herbivores/omnivores taxa functions associated fiber degradation detoxification plant chemical compounds. Overall, aspects individually altogether validate predict main habits, suggesting fundamental role bacteria niche expansion adaptation.

Abstract Aquatic animal diseases are one of the major limiting factors in aquaculture development, with disease emergence forecast to increase global change. However, order treat increasing a context antimicrobial resistance and strengthening regulations on use, sustainable alternatives urgently needed. The use plant supplements fish immunity has gained much popularity within last decades. functional supplements, such as plants, can also improve growth feed assimilation, contributing better optimization resources (e.g. meal inclusion). We conducted systematic review meta‐analysis identify research gaps plant‐enriched diets estimate, for first time, overall efficacy growth, well effect intrinsic parameters (fish trophic level, type material, dosage, treatment duration pathogen species) efficacy. found that significantly enhanced survival treated fish, regardless material used. show versatile alternative benefit different sectors (from small‐scale farmers intensive productions). Abstract The gut microbiota is currently one of the most studied ‘organs’ in animals, and fish are no exception. A complex diversity microbes, including bacteria, archaea, yeast fungus, constitute microbiota, creating a interaction with their host accomplishing multiple beneficial functions, such as food digestion, nutrient absorption, immune system, endocrine stress response. microbiota–pathogen protects by mounting colonization resistance, competing for nutrients space. Changes balance community could affect structure homeostasis, inducing dysbiosis. In addition, invading pathogens can induce dysbiosis evading host's defence barriers, acquiring from host, using metabolites produced producing toxins. this regard, understanding interactions within essential to prevent pathogen establishment host. Hence, review describes close indivisible relationships between that lead disease.

Leptotrichia species are non-motile facultative anaerobic/anaerobic bacteria that found mostly in the oral cavity and some other parts of human body, animals, even ocean sediments. Valid include L. buccalis, goodfellowii, hofstadii, honkongensis, shahii, trevisanii, wadei. Some require serum or blood for growth. All ferment carbohydrates produce lactic acid may be involved with tooth decay. Acting as opportunistic pathogens, they a variety diseases, have been isolated from immunocompromised but also immunocompetent individuals. Mucositis, lesions, wounds, abscesses predispose to septicemia. Because identification by phenotypic features occasionally lead misidentification, genetic techniques such 16S rRNA gene sequencing is recommended. Early diagnosis treatment leptotrichia infections important positive outcomes. Over last years, associated several changes taxonomy new associations clinical diseases.
