Plastic pollution has become a major environmental concern due to its omnipresence and degradation smaller particles. The potential toxicological effects of micro- nanoplastic on biota have been investigated in growing number exposure studies. We performed comprehensive review the main determining factors for plastic particle toxicity relevant systems, from publications until including year 2018. For focused scope, additives or other pollutants accumulated by particles are not included. In summary, current literature suggests that depends concentration, size, time, condition, shape polymer type. Furthermore, contaminant background, food availability, species, developmental stage sex influence outcome exposures. Frequently reported were body population growth, energy metabolism, feeding, movement activity, physiological stress, oxidative inflammation, immune system, hormonal regulation, aberrant development, cell death, general altered lipid metabolism. Several times increased growth consumption, neuro-, liver- kidney pathology intestinal damage. Photosynthesis disruption was studies investigating phytoplankton. currently unquantified below 10 μm, more toxic all aquatic life, as compared larger size.
