The goal of this work was to obtain a series triaryl-gallium species GaAr*3, where Ar*= Ph (4), 3,5-difluorophenyl (5), and 3,5-trifluoromethylphenyl (6) that behave as Lewis acids, focusing on their use in the synthesis either rollover or classic cyclometallated Ga compounds. Three analogous diarylmercury HgAr*2 species, 1-3, were successfully synthesized used precursors. Compounds 2 3 analyzed by EI-MS, giving expected molecular ions. Additionally, compound through X-ray diffraction experiment; crystal structures observed pi-stacking interactions. only obtained GaPh3, 4, because presence fluorine-containing groups meta-position caused sublimation respective mercury diaryls compounds, impeding reaction with gallium. attempts addressed achieve 4 bipyridine, pyrazole, benzo-imidazole pyridin-benzothiazole type ligands have failed; however, under experimental conditions applied, solid aryl-Ga cluster containing twelve atoms (Ga12) formed, whereas above-mentioned quantitatively recovered solution. identity aryl-gallium confirmed electrospray ionization – high resolution mass spectrometry.
