This review focuses on optical properties of compounds in which at least one phosphonate group is directly attached to a heteroaromatic ring. Additionally, the synthesis and other applications these are addressed this work. The influence substituent described discussed compared with non-phosphorus substituents, particular attention given photophysical properties, such as UV-Vis absorption emission, fluorescence quantum yield lifetime. Considering presence heteroatom, collected material was divided into two parts, literature last thirty years heteroaryl phosphonates containing sulfur nitrogen atoms aromatic ring conducted.
