IPr*diNHC: Sterically Adaptable Dinuclear N-Heterocyclic Carbenes

N-Heterocyclic
carbenes
(NHCs)
have
been
established
as
the
predominant
ligand
class
in
inorganic
and
organometallic
chemistry.
Simultaneously,
there
has
a
major
interest
dinuclear
ligands,
where
cooperative
effects
between
metal
centers
widely
exploited
across
numerous
research
avenues.
Herein,
we
report
synthesis
of
sterically
hindered
adaptable
N-heterocyclic
ligands
based
on
modular
IPr*
framework.
These
are
distinguished
by
(1)
bridging
group
carbene
donors
(2)
steric
electronic
characteristics
N-aromatic
wingtips.
The
net
effect
is
remarkably
broadly
ranging
environment
around
center
(%Vbur
33.9
up
to
60.4%)
well
versatile
conformation
from
perfectly
linear
(3.2°)
almost
fully
perpendicular
(79.3°)
donors.
evaluated
gold(I)-catalyzed
hydration
carboxylation
alkynes,
they
show
enhanced
catalytic
reactivity
over
mononuclear
gold(I)
complexes.

different
fields,
expect
that
this
will
be
broad
