In this study, a zeolitic adsorbent (AGW-ZA) was successfully developed from glass waste (GW)-derived aluminosilicates. The GW, serving as the starting material, underwent alkaline activation and hydrothermal treatment to yield AGW-ZA adsorbent, which exhibited surface area of 216.48 m2/g. demonstrated significantly higher ammonium (NH4+) ion adsorption (142.5 mg/g at 1000 mg/L) than pristine GW (80.0 mg/g). Optimal experimental parameters were identified (0.1 g dosage, pH = 7, 10 h contact time) determine maximum NH4+ ions’ potential by adsorbents. Kinetic isotherm models applied data describe mechanisms. pseudo-second-order model provided best fit for both indicating that process is followed chemical interaction via exchange. Regarding isotherms, Freundlich most suitable AGW-ZA, signifying ions adsorbed on heterogeneous surfaces forming multilayers, while Temkin data, chemisorption nature with medium adsorbate–adsorbent interactions above surface. This study explores transforming discarded into high-performance mitigation environmental pollution removing wastewater simultaneously addressing management challenges.
