Mechanochemical Synthesis of Boroxine-linked Covalent Organic Frameworks DOI Creative Commons

We report a rapid, room-temperature mechanochemical synthesis of 2- and 3-dimensional boroxine covalent organic frameworks (COFs), enabled by using trimethylboroxine as dehydrating additive to overcome the hydrolytic sensitivity boroxine-based COFs. The resulting COFs display high porosity crystallinity, with COF-102 being first example mechanochemically-prepared 3D COF, exhibiting surface area exceeding 2,400 m2 g–1. Mechanochemistry >20-fold reduction in solvent use ~100-fold reaction time compared solvothermal methods, providing target quantitatively no additional work-up besides vacuum drying. Real-time Raman spectroscopy permitted quantitative kinetic analysis COF mechanosynthesis, while transferring design Resonant Acoustic Mixing (RAM) multi-gram amounts

This paper presents a novel approach for the selective oxidation of alcohols to their corresponding aldehydes through direct mechanocatalysis, employing gold-coated milling vessel as catalyst and air agent. By adjusting frequency, media, duration, high catalytic efficiencies selectivities are achieved.
