Garcinia gummi-gutta, commonly known as cambogia (syn.), is a popular traditional herbal medicine for its role in treating obesity, and has been incorporated into several nutraceuticals globally this purpose. The fruit rind also used food preservative condiment because of high content hydroxycitric acid, which imparts sharp, sour flavour. This review highlights the major bioactive compounds present tree with particular emphasis on (2S, 3S)-tetrahydro-3-hydroxy-5-oxo-2,3-furan dicarboxylic referred to garcinia acid. acid can be isolated large amounts through simple procedure. Additionally, it explores synthetic transformations biologically potent functionally useful enantiopure compounds, relatively under-documented area literature. six-carbon skeleton, γ-butyrolactone moiety, two chiral centres bearing chemically amenable functional groups, offers versatile framework chiron construction diverse molecules both natural origin. synthesis 3-substituted 3,4-disubstituted pyrrolidine-2,5-diones, analogues Quararibea metabolite—a enolic-γ-lactone; concave bislactone skeletons fungal metabolites (+)-avenaciolide (−)-canadensolide; structural furo[2,3-b]furanol part anti-HIV drug Darunavir; (−)-tetrahydropyrrolo[2,1-a]isoquinolinones, an analogue (−)-crispine A; (−)-hexahydroindolizino[8,7-b]indolones, naturally occurring (−)-harmicine; furo[2,3-b]pyrroles are presented here.

Abstract A palladium‐catalyzed divergent cascade annulation reaction of unactivated cycloalkenes with alkynoic acids under aerobic conditions is accomplished. This catalytic protocol provides an efficient and economical strategy to accommodate a broad scope (E)‐ γ ‐lactones fused five‐ or six‐membered ring motifs good regioselectivities yields ( 57 examples, up 94 % yield E/Z 98 : 2 ). More importantly, the developed applicable wide array cycloalkenes, including cyclopentene, cyclohexa‐1,3‐diene, cyclohexa‐1,4‐diene, cyclohepta‐1,3‐diene conjugated 1,3‐diene.
