3-Methylenebutane-1,2,4-triol and 3-methyltetrahydrofuran-2,4-diols, previously designated "C5-alkene triols", were recently confirmed as in-particle isomerization products of isoprene-derived β-IEPOX isomers that are formed upon acid-driven uptake partition back into the gas phase. In chamber experiments, we have systematically explored their phase oxidation by hydroxyl radical (•OH) a potential source secondary organic aerosol (SOA). •OH-initiated both compounds in presence ammonium bisulfate resulted substantial volume growth. Compositions low-volatility particulate phases established high-resolution mass spectrometry measurements. Under conditions mimicking Southeast USA (50% relative humidity, bulk seed pH 1.4), estimate SOA yield from 3-methylenebutane-1,2,4-triol to be 93.1%, equating 1.95 ± 0.81 Tg C Yr-1, 3-methyltetrahydrofuran-2,4-diol 26.7%, 1.76 1.26 Yr-1. Abstract New particle formation (NPF) often drives cloud condensation nuclei concentrations and the processes governing nucleation of molecular clusters vary substantially in different regions. The growth these from ∼2 to >10 nm diameters is driven by availability extremely low volatility organic vapors (ELVOCs). Although pathways ELVOC oxidation biogenic terpenes are better understood, mechanistic for anthropogenic organics less well understood. We integrate measurements detailed regional model simulations understand NPF secondary aerosol at Southern Great Plain (SGP) observatory Oklahoma compare with a site within Bankhead National Forest (BNF) Alabama, southeast USA. During our two simulated event days, rates predicted be least an order magnitude higher SGP compared BNF largely due lower sulfuric acid (H 2 SO 4 ) BNF. Among mechanisms WRF‐Chem, we find that dimethylamine (DMA) + H mechanism dominates SGP. ELVOCs critical explaining particles observed Treating as semisolid, strong diffusion limitations vapor uptake phase, brings predictions into closer agreement observations. also simulate non‐NPF days show low‐level clouds reduce photochemical activity corresponding reductions concentrations, thereby lack NPF.

The Amazon rainforest is an important reservoir of biodiversity, offering vast potential for the discovery new bioactive compounds from plants. In vitro studies allow investigation biological processes and interventions in a controlled manner, making them fundamental pharmacological biotechnological research. These approaches are faster less costly than vivo studies, providing standardized conditions that enhance reproducibility precision data. However, methods have limitations, including inability to fully replicate complexity living organism absence complete physiological context. Translating results models not always straightforward, due differences pharmacokinetics interactions. this context, aim literature review assess advantages disadvantages search drugs Amazon, identifying challenges limitations associated with these comparing testing. Thus, bioprospecting involves evaluating plant extracts through bioassays investigate pharmacological, antimicrobial, anticancer activities. Phenolic terpenes frequently identified as main agents, exhibiting antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antineoplastic Chemical characterization, molecular modifications, development delivery systems, such nanoparticles, highlighted improve therapeutic efficacy. Therefore, offers great drugs; however, significant challenges, standardization extraction need clinical trials, must be overcome become viable medications.
