Abstract The acid‐base reaction of CO 2 with hydroxide ions to (bi)carbonate anions at the cathode alkaline exchange membrane (AEM) electrolyzer has detrimental impact on their performance. (Bi)carbonate buffers local pH, and in combination metal cations, may lead precipitation salts cathode. This non‐electrochemical conversion significantly reduces utilization efficiency limits single pass AEM 50% if is desired. Acidic cation‐free electrolysis potential address mitigate these problems. Here, valorization demonstrated faradaic efficiencies (FE) up 80% FE forward‐bias BPM cell architectures using actual neutral pure water feeding anode. study demonstrates how immobilized anion ionomer layers thereby facilitate thanks positively charged functional NR 4 groups.
