The torsional disorder of conjugated dyes in the electronic ground state can lead to inhomogeneous broadening S1 ←S0 absorption band, allowing for selective photoexcitation molecules with different amounts distortion. Here, we investigate how this affects transitions upper excited states. We show that torsion a core-alkynylated push–pull dye have opposite effects on oscillator strength its lowest-energy transitions. Consequently, photoselection planar and twisted be achieved by exciting distinct bands. Whereas has limited effect liquids due fast planarization molecules, it strongly overall photophysics polymeric environment, where motion is hindered, fluorescence quantum yields intersystem-crossing dynamics.

An iridium-catalyzed asymmetric allylic substitution with sequential boron incorporation is reported. The reaction accommodates a wide range of substrates, affording chiral N,O-bidentate difluoroboron complexes in excellent yields high enantioselectivities. Furthermore, decigram-scale reaction, synthetic transformations, as well photophysical property investigations the are explored.
