Abstract The recent progression in electronics and humankind's increased dependence on electronic gadgets have significantly impacted energy supply demand metrics. In the past, batteries been able to meet these demands adequately. However, their low power density (P s ) has inspired alternative storage advancements that can foster a transition net‐carbon‐zero via renewables. Supercapacitor (SC) innovations, such as emergence of solid‐state supercapacitors (SSCs), gained tremendous attention owing mechanical robustness, safety, possible flexibility, long cycle life, portability, prospective high P , suitability for advanced technologies. Complimentary affordable lightweight material design requirements is enormous potential graphene family SSCs facile synthesis advantages, easy scalability and, processing electrical conductivity, costs, robustness among others. Therefore, review highlights efforts advance with electrodes electrolytes. work discusses SC basic concepts main characterization techniques, applications both electrolytes SSCs. Finally, merits, demerits prospects incorporating derivatives SSC performance sustainability are outlined. Key research directions, including machine learning, also recommended from reviewed studies.
