We report that carbon quantum dots (CQDs) synthesized via a hydrothermal process using anthraquinone derivatives and l-cysteine provide versatile detection modes, making them suitable for various experimental setups. By modification of the precursor structures, these CQDs can function as different types fluorescent nanothermometers, including those based on fluorescence intensity, ratiometrics, lifetime. Notably, lifetime-based demonstrate robust performance under wide range conditions, variations in pH ionic strength. The exhibit low cytotoxicity high cellular uptake efficiency, enabling wash-free imaging precise temperature measurements at single-cell level. Furthermore, we successfully measured changes associated with biochemical reactions, increase induced by mitochondrial depolarization. In addition, could be cross-verified their intensity. These findings underscore potential minimally invasive tools nanoscale thermometry live cells.
