Introduction. Enterococcus spp. which are representatives of the intestinal normal microbiota, play an important role in ensuring colonization resistance mucous membranes, producing antimicrobial compounds, and therefore widely used as basis probiotic drugs. In last decade, infections caused by Candida fungi have become a serious clinical problem. this regard, it is relevant to evaluate characteristics E. faecium strain 18 study its antifungal activity. The aim investigate effect on growth mature biofilm spp., well characterize agregation coagregation abilities. Materials methods. fungal was determined dynamics optical density broth cultures; enterococcus supernatant formed biofilms studied sterile polystyrene 96-well plates. potential assessed ability autoagregate coagregate interaction with 20 strains different species — C. albicans, krusei, kefir, glabrata. scanning electron microscopy obtain images. Results. inhibitory has been shown affect all species, their biofilms. level inhibition non-albicans 58.6–72.9% 51.4% for albicans. autoagregation rates were 57.6% after 2 hours incubation 60.4% 5 hours. demonstrated levels Candida, index values observed cultivation being higher maximum value recorded glabrata (85.6%). Conclusion. experimental data obtained allow us consider that anti-candidiasis effect.

Cationic bactericidal-coated gold nanoparticles are known to effectively prevent Gram-negative bacterial initial adhesion and community behavior development by strongly binding surfaces disrupting the cell membranes. However, such have been recently shown unintentionally promote in bacteria because of stress response. To find whether these contradictory findings due emerging response or poorly understood nanoparticle interactions bacteria, this work, we treated high population curli-producing Escherichia coli with cationic antibiotic/antiseptic-coated followed consequences details using a variety physical methods controls. Parallelly, employed standard biological assays commonly used detect bacteria. Biological yielded results some inferring promotion while others inhibition. revealed that inhibition observations resulted from without any being involved. Using methods, further demonstrated macromolecules antibiotics antiseptics exhibit similar as nanoparticles, independent inhibitory concentration. Overall, emphasize need consider interactions, rather than relying solely on assays, when evaluating free antibiotics/antiseptics against

Lactobacillaceae are a large, diverse family of Gram-positive lactic acid-producing bacteria. As gut microbiota residents in many mammals, these bacteria beneficial for health and frequently used as probiotics. abundance the gastrointestinal tract has been correlated with pathologies infection. Microbiota must compete nutrients, including essential metal ions like calcium, zinc, iron. Recent animal human studies have revealed that dietary calcium can positively influence diversity intestinal species, but underlying molecular mechanisms remain poorly understood. Here, we investigated impacts on growth biofilm formation two distinct species found microbiota, Lactobacillus acidophilus ATCC 4356 Lactiplantibacillus plantarum 14917. We differentially affect both species. In general, supplementation promotes albeit some variations extent to which different parameters were impacted. Calcium strongly induce L. not Based bioinformatic analyses experimental chelator studies, hypothesize surface proteins specific 4356, S-layer proteins, responsible Ca2+-induced formation. The ability form biofilms linked their colonize microbiota. This work shows how Ca2+ may be important just nutrients growth, also facilitate cell-cell interactions possibly colonization
