Introduction Cancer survivors experienced poorer health-related quality of life (HRQoL) and greater psychological distress during the COVID-19 pandemic than those without cancer. However, underlying mechanisms that may explain how negative experiences are associated with HRQoL remain unknown. We examined whether psychosocial risk factors (i.e., healthcare disruption, disruption to daily activities social interaction [DDASI], financial hardship) mediated relationship between COVID-19-related cancer survivors’ depressive symptoms, anxiety) mediating effects were moderated by protective stress management ability support). Methods A total 9,651 completed a questionnaire assessing experiences, practical HRQoL. Conditional process analysis was used evaluate proposed mediation models. Results Participants had mean age 63.8 years (SD = 12.3) mostly non-Hispanic White (82.3%). DDASI hardship survivor’s distress. Stress buffered indirect effect on Social support symptoms. Conclusion Financial resources interactions buffer major disruptions such as pandemic. Future studies should assess longitudinal impact these associations.
