Since the emergence of first photon-counting computed tomography (PCCT) system in late 2021, its advantages and a wide range applications all fields radiology have been demonstrated. Compared to standard energy-integrating detector-CT, PCCT allows for superior geometric dose efficiency every examination. While this aspect by itself is groundbreaking, do not stop there. facilitates an unprecedented combination ultra-high-resolution imaging without penalty or field-of-view restrictions, detector-based elimination electronic noise, ubiquitous multi-energy spectral information. Considering high demands orthopedic visualization minuscule details while simultaneously covering large portions skeletal soft tissue anatomy, no subspecialty may benefit more from novel detector technology than musculoskeletal radiology. Deeply rooted experimental clinical research, review article aims provide introduction cosmos PCCT, explain technical basics, highlight most promising patient care, also mentioning current limitations that need be overcome.

ABSTRACT Introduction: The organ’s sensitivity to radiation exposure varies depending on the cells in that organ. thyroid and gonads have an increased risk since those organs divide faster. This study aimed estimate dose compare gender-related variations entrance during computed tomography (CT) thorax examination. Materials Methods: We used data from 43 patients prescribed CT examinations. Thermoluminescent dosimeter (TLD) discs detect scattered gonads. Four were for each patient, two at level gonad region. exposed a control TLD disc with appropriate identifications are sent Avanttec Laboratories, India, readings. Results: median males females was 7.55 mSv 9.42 mSv, respectively. 0.11 0.25 females, Gonad has statistically significant difference between ( P < 0.001). Karl Pearson’s correlation coefficient check relationship body mass index (BMI) length product (DLP), it showed value of 0.611 0.715 strong positive BMI DLP, irrespective gender. Conclusion: thyroids minimal when compared literature. However, we recommend providing better care using optimized protocol only required area coverage protect gonad.

Computed tomographic (CT) coronary artery angiography with calcium scoring is crucial in suspecting disease (CAD). The routine protocol for CAD radiological investigation involves a precontrast series and postcontrast investigating structural changes arteries. This review intends to investigate the feasibility of virtual noncontrast images replace true (TNC) decrease radiation dose. current included articles found PubMed database. Using Preferred Reporting Items Systematic Reviews Meta-Analyses guidelines further evaluation inclusion criteria, 25 were finally shortlisted final review. It that score arteries estimated by unenhanced generated dual-energy CT (DECT) comparable TNC images. unehncanced has potential eliminate need acquisition, thereby reducing Especially, photon-counting detector-based DECT excellent estimation scores reduction In addition, contrast dose also can be significantly reduced, which patients renal insufficiency. conclusion, using investigations reduces both doses compared conventional scans. particularly who require repeated follow-up scans, as it enhances their safety minimizes risks.
