The scientific measurement of high-quality industries development (Abbreviated as HQID) level is crucial for promoting their advancement in China. This holds significant importance reducing regional differences HQID among cities and fostering coordinated urban industry development. study utilizes panel data encompassing 286 China from 2003 to 2022. It comprehensively examines the essence HQID, focusing on factor output efficiency industrialization process. To achieve this, an evaluation index system seven key aspects constructed: technological innovation intensity, productivity, resource utilization pollution emission open competition level, quality. Subsequently, measured, spatial–temporal evolution characteristics are revealed through various methods, including spatial correlation analysis, hot spot Dagum Gini coefficient decomposition. findings indicate following: (1) China's experiencing slow but steady improvement its overall level. number regions with medium high levels has notably increased. Furthermore, distribution predominantly concentrated Eastern coastal areas. (2) Chinese reveals positive between H–H type agglomeration pattern L–L pattern. (3) highest most pronounced growth trend observed coast Northern coastal. Since 2018, northeast northwest areas shown a decline. From 2022 inter-regional were primary source disparities, variation contribution rates three factors.
