This study conducts a thorough numerical investigation into the aerodynamic and heat transfer characteristics of mixed convective flow past an elliptical cylinder. Analysis is carried out for constant Reynolds number (Re = 100), Prandtl (Pr 0.71), angle attack (λ=0°), utilizing Oberbeck–Boussinesq approximation to solve mass, momentum, energy equations via in-house solver. It explores wide range free-stream orientations, from 0° (upward aligned with gravity) 90° (cross-flow). Additionally, Richardson (Ri) varied forced convection (Ri 0) regimes, up Ri 1.25. Two aspect ratios (AR=Major axis length/Minor length), specifically 2 4, are examined assess their impact on behavior. The paper elucidates variations lift coefficient, drag Nusselt at different orientations. Furthermore, it investigates dynamics both steady unsteady correlating behavior observed characteristics. Steady periodic regimes identified in parametric space (α, Ri) AR 4. mean rate increases (α=0°, 30°, 60°) except α=90°, where decreases. These findings provide insights designing compact exchangers elliptic tube cross-sections.

The wake transitions of the flow past two side-by-side elliptical cylinders were numerically investigated using lattice Boltzmann method at Reynolds numbers (Re) 40, 100, and 150, with various spacing ratios (L/D, where L represents distance between cylinder centers D is their diameter) aspect (AR). This study elucidated effects Re, AR, L/D on characteristics, including structures, hydrodynamic coefficients, Strouhal number (St), spectral energy exerted both cylinders. Six distinct patterns are observed in AR−L/D space, such as steady shear layers, anti-phase synchronized streets, in-phase single bluff body, flip-flopping, chaotic flow. These characterized through detailed analyses, vorticity contour plots, time histories drag lift power density, proper orthogonal decomposition fluctuations into deterministic spatial structures. Additionally, pattern maps diagrams time-averaged pressure coefficients surface provided to assess influence behavior. showed near-identical trends significant variations depending AR. When AR small, coefficient root-mean-squared found be substantially higher than those an isolated cylinder. Furthermore, a notable increase was when attributed repulsive forces At (Re=100 & 150), substantial differences St emerge, particularly for smaller values, despite being configuration.
