The growing demand for the sustainable production of high-value compounds, such as biofuels, lipids, and pigments like carotenoids phycobilin, has become subject numerous investigations. Furthermore, this led to exploration renewable methods utilizing microalgae feedstock mitigate challenges associated with producing these valuable compounds. Nevertheless, despite advantages microalgae, development a microalgal biorefinery that employs sustainable, environmentally friendly, economically efficient technologies remains necessity. To address challenge, bio-flocculation process, more specifically self-flocculation, is presented cost-effective energy-efficient solution. This method easy effective chemical flocculation, which applied at an industrial scale; however, in contrast, it no costs are involved pre-treatment biomass oil extraction or medium before can be re-used. In addition, possess molecular tools would allow efficiency processes increased. present review, we summarize harvesting used, particular focus on bio- self-flocculation processes, identify improvements could made enhance high-added-value compounds while simultaneously reducing biorefineries.
