Objectives

Depression

Pregnancy

a
woman's
life,
yet
there
exists
prevalent
condition
that
is
less
frequently
acknowledged
often
misunderstood--perinatal
depression
(PND).This
often-silent
struggle,
hidden
from
society's
health
system's
gaze,
remains
formidable
challenge
for
countless
women
despite
effective
interventions.Here,
I
shed
light
on
the
stark
global
disparities
prevalence
management
of
perinatal
depression,
delving
into
determinants,
challenges,
recommendations
way
forward.

away
mere
physical
include
mental
healthThe
focus
maternal
newborn
has
traditionally
been
centered
wellbeing,
primarily
aimed
at
reducing
infant
mortality
rates
[1].Maternal
had
not
gained
recognition

public
concern

[2].While

occasional
mentions

discussions,
it
wasn't
1985,
spurred
by
thought-provoking
article
titled
"Where
'M'
MCH?"[3]
(referring
child
health),
community
began
seriously
address
pregnant
women.However,
it's
imperative
our
attention
now
also
includes
MCH.Managing
only
crucial
safeguarding
health,
but
untreated
far-reaching
negative
consequences
families.It
poses
risks
mother-infant
bonding
process,
can
affect
everyday
care
well
child's
cognitive,
psychosocial,
motor
development
[4].
