Abstract Indonesia aims to achieve a Forest and Other Land Use (FOLU) Net Sink by 2030. The greatest challenge lies in drained peatlands, significant sources of CO 2 emissions from peat decomposition. Attaining net sink or zero peatlands appears unattainable; thus, the primary goal is substantial emission reduction. main intervention for peatland mitigation involves raising water table as high feasible, balancing agricultural productivity local economic needs. A long-term strategy reduction could involve implementing paludiculture once reach non-drainable level, earlier if economically viable alternatives commodities emerge. Development factors, such linear models correlating average levels with emissions, well-advanced crucial assessing impact canal blocking on However, there remains need activity data that quantify area affected extent rise due blocks. Such are essential Tier 3 assessments improving management strategies Indonesian peatlands. Therefore, it recommended develop model describing effects rise, supported comprehensive compilation new research aimed at elucidating these relationships. Access will facilitate quantification reductions restored areas.
