This work reports the determination of mercury and assessment health risks in water, river sediments, soil samples collected city Jacobina, Brazil, located a region impacted by gold mining. The determinations were performed using direct method analyzer (DMA) method, which was carefully validated according to IUPAC recommendations. Total contents ranged from 0.10 1.77 μg L-1 water samples, 0.005 0.278 g-1 0.014 0.317 sediment samples. contamination factor (CF) ecological risk index applied data obtained analyses. Only one twenty-one had CF > 1 (1.11), denoting moderate for this sampled site. All 20 other < (0.02 0.69), showing low soils throughout Jacobina. results perfectly corroborated found CF, that only sample potential risk. Among 13 two Er range 40 80, these locations. 11 less than 40, demonstrating sediments analyzed have due mercury. levels are below maximum limit (2 L-1) established CONAMA, Brazilian Government, class 3 freshwater. daily exposure also routes through dermal contact (ADIder), inhalation (ADIinh), ingestion (ADIing) employing indices USEPA. did not indicate noncarcinogenic adults children.
