This study explored the reasons underlying pregnant women's reluctance to undergo cesarean sections in Togo, despite its importance reducing maternal and neonatal mortality. A total of 397 women who expressed hesitancy toward were enrolled during routine prenatal care visits at country's largest hospital. They completed a questionnaire comprising 72 statements addressing potential for sections. Their responses analyzed using factor analysis, effects participants' demographic characteristics on scores each assessed ANOVA. seven-factor structure motives was found: Fear Death (endorsed by 92% sample); Regaining Autonomy Quickly (87%); Financial Concerns (74%); Stigmatization (73%); Unsupportive Reactions from Spouses Relatives (72%); Prevention Through Spiritual Interventions (70%); Perceived Health Risks Mother Baby (40%). Scores these factors related sociodemographic characteristics. Effectively low uptake section requires multifaceted approach rather than one focused single barrier. Our findings suggest critical points that could help develop tailored interventions address various obstacles this life-saving care.
