Abstract This study introduces a novel approach to urban liveability research by combining interviews with participatory mapping techniques. More specifically, the integrates concepts from geographic information systems (GISs) episodic narrative develop qualitative GIS (qual‐GIS) methodology map and interpret spatial experiences of recent migrants Cairns. qual‐GIS involves participants annotating amenity maps personal narratives, effectively geolocating subjective experiences, providing visual representations insights. During sessions, identified highlighted significant locations pens sticky notes express their stories place attachments. Analysis annotated in ArcGIS enabled juxtaposition insights quantitative data, offering rich, spatially informed understanding place.
