Abstract Background Osteoarthritis (OA) is a common degenerative joint disease causing chronic pain, disability, and mobility limitations, severely affecting quality of life. Traditional treatments like physical therapy surgery often have limited efficacy due to side effects, incomplete recovery, progression, highlighting the need for innovative therapies. Methods We searched PubMed Embase from January 1, 2010 November 2024, preliminary included studies involving animal experiments on therapeutic effects decellularized extracellular matrix (dECM) its derived materials cartilage defect. After removing duplicates, we conducted bibliometric analysis. Following exclusion evaluation literature, random/fixed model was employed perform meta-analysis obtain Weighted Mean Difference (WMD) Research Society International (OARSI) score Cartilage Repair (ICRS) between dECM treatment group corresponding control group. verify robustness results through subgroup analysis sensitivity analysis, with heterogeneity assessed by Q-test quantified via I 2 values. Results total 10 studies, which 7 were used ICRS-based 3 OARSI-based meta-analysis. The combined mean ICRS group/control resulted in an WMD 2.45 (95% CI: 1.07 3.84; = 97.4%); P -value < 0.001). Meanwhile, OARSI -1.65 -3.63 0.34; 97.3%). subsequent funnel plot confirmed low publication bias above results. Conclusions Based dual-index meta-analysis, relative derivatives been proved possess significant repair function OA, can be further explored tissue regeneration filed.
