US sanctions, workforce dynamics, and corporate entrepreneurship: evidence from Iran DOI

Purpose This study aims to explore how political sanctions imposed by the US government have influenced workforce dynamics and corporate entrepreneurship within Iranian listed firms. Design/methodology/approach The utilizes a difference-in-differences approach compare compositions of firms subjected with those unaffected both before after implementation sanctions. empirical analysis data from spanning 2013 2023. Findings Our reveals significant decrease in employment rates among sanctioned firms, indicating reduction their size. However, interestingly, we also observe simultaneous positive effect on educational qualifications employees, as evidenced increases academic credentials training hours, coupled higher research development (R&D) expenditures. These shifts human capital investment R&D spending contribute heightened level subsequent year. Furthermore, our findings suggest that enhance entrepreneurial activities prioritizing innovation processes over exploring new business domains. Originality/value Through this investigation, elucidates intricate relationship between entrepreneurship, highlighting complex dynamic wherein sanctions, despite reducing quantity, encourage investments quality efficiency, ultimately fostering an environment conducive enhanced entrepreneurship.

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) have gained attention for their societal importance and are being referenced in various contexts. In entrepreneurial research, they often cited to tackle social issues. However, this differs top-tier entrepreneurship journals, where references SDGs rare compared the prevalent use of concept sustainability. This paper aims explore how treated these journals provide guidance future research entrepreneurship.
