Benzophenone-3,
commonly
known
as
oxybenzone,
is
an
organic
compound
widely
used
in
sunscreens
and
personal
care
products
for
protection
against
UVA
UVB
rays.
Due
to
its
environmental
persistence
potential
toxicity,
this
study
evaluated
the
effects
of
BP-3
at
environmentally
relevant
concentration
(1
µg/L)
on
gills,
kidney,
antioxidant
system
zebrafish
(Danio
rerio).2.
Adult
male
were
randomly
distributed
into
three
groups,
each
with
replicates
(n
=
10
per
group):
water
control,
solvent
1
µg/L
BP-3,
using
a
static
exposure
96
hours.
After
experiment,
histopathological
analyses
gills
kidneys
performed,
along
biochemical
assessments
enzymes
superoxide
dismutase
(SOD)
catalase
(CAT).3.
Exposure
resulted
significant
alterations
including
vascular
congestion,
epithelial
detachment,
edema,
lamellar
aneurysm,
indicating
severe
damage
respiratory
function.
In
kidneys,
glomerular
capillary
dilation,
tubular
cell
vacuolization,
focal
necrosis
observed,
suggesting
renal
dysfunction.
Biochemical
revealed
impairment
defense
system:
SOD
activity
decreased,
while
CAT
remained
unchanged,
oxidative
stress
accumulation.
significantly
increased,
enzymatic
imbalance
cumulative

These
results
demonstrate
that
even
low
concentrations,
induces

compromise
organ
function
defenses.
