ABSTRACT Firms within supply chains have a critical role to play in mitigating the adverse effects of climate change. Yet, studies about different strategies that firms deploy engage environmentally sustainable chains, eventually mitigate climate‐related hazards are rather sparse. This study aims address this gap. The employs multiple‐case‐study approach. Thirty semistructured interviews with sustainability managers six Australian‐based buying departments undertaken. Results reveal five distinct buyers change impacts and, thereby contribute positive environmental impact. Particularly, findings highlight importance responsible/sustainable procurement, thorough mapping chain, localization manufacturing practices, and leveraging digital technologies, especially data analytics. These can help risks bring chains. offers both theoretical insights practical implications, concluding discussions on limitations suggestions for future research directions.
