Abstract Naturally occurring hydrous sulphate minerals bearing rock, sampled from a Martian analogue area, Kachchh, India was investigated for sequestration of metal ions nuclear significance in view waste management applications. Structural analyses revealed the presence alunite group (such as hydronium jarosite, alunite, natroalunite) along with phyllosilicate mineral—kaolinite sample. Sorption performance assessment batch mode cesium (Cs) demonstrated influence initial sorbate concentration and solution pH on uptake ions. Equilibrium sorption data upon correlation theoretical isotherms showed better agreement Langmuir model monalayer capacity 26.4 mg g −1 Cs. Maximum acidic is signature involvement structural process. EDXRF analysis loading surface sorbent after sorption. The studies highlight that cation retention potential naturally available rock could be instrumental possible application material barrier matrix to immobilize importance conditions.
