The forests in China’s temperate semi-arid region play a significant role water conservation, carbon storage, and biodiversity protection. An accurate estimation of their aboveground biomass (AGB) is crucial for assessing key ecological characteristics, such as forest storage capacity, biodiversity, productivity. This provides scientific basis resource management conservation this region. In study, we extract 17 features related to the dominant species (Larix gmelinii Betula platyphylla), including 7 vegetation indices derived from remote sensing data, 14 satellite bands, 3 site characteristics. We then analyze correlations between AGB these features. compare performance models using linear regression (LR), polynomial (PR), ridge (RR), Support Vector Regression (SVR), Extreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost), random (RFR). results show that Larix gmelinii, Landsat 8 bands TM4 TM7 have greater degree correlation with than other features, while platyphylla, TM3 AGB, elevation has weaker AGB. Although (LR) demonstrates certain advantages estimation, particularly when values range 40 70 t/ha, RFR outperforms overall performance, accuracies reaching 85% platyphylla 89% gmelinii. study reveals both environmental characteristics may significantly influence selection choice algorithm model optimization critical. innovatively extracts forests, analyses relationships factors, optimizes advanced techniques, offering method can be applied regions well.
