Towards a functional place: Syrian refugees' contending with the European Union's host‐home schism DOI

Abstract The refugee crisis is rooted in the host‐home schism, a fundamental disconnection between host (the EU) and home (refugees' country of origin). This schism generated by EU's migratory policies resulting from struggles different political camps, compromise far‐right/exclusive camp liberal camp. To assess this we have conducted an in‐depth analysis Syrian refugees' perceptions with focus groups. Much has been written about Brexit and migration, but little from the perspective of Bulgarians in UK. Through an online questionnaire followed by in-depth interviews, we study Bulgarians' 'stay' or 'leave' intentions light then Covid-19. Combining cross-tabulation regression analysis survey data narrative interview scripts, show how migrants' plans are dependent on their position labour market document experiences those who have returned.
