This research proposes a sustainable municipal solid waste management (MSWM) system to address population growth, consumerism, and resource scarcity. It introduces two-phase decision structure combining multi-attribute decision-making (MADM) tools. Phase one develops hybrid risk-oriented fuzzy MADM tool for selecting optimal waste-to-energy technologies, considering environmental technological factors. two uses bi-objective multi-period mixed-integer linear programming model design the MSWM supply chain efficiently under uncertainty. A case study in North Tehran demonstrates framework's practical applicability effectiveness real-world scenarios, highlighting that effective source separation boosts recycling, reduces costs, provides social benefits. Sensitivity analyses offer insights enhance segregation practices. The emphasizes integrating economic, environmental, sustainability decision-making. By offering novel, holistic approach, this addresses existing gaps systematic processes robust municipalities optimize strategies

Over the last several decades, European Union (EU) has championed recycling and sustainable waste management through Directives 2008/98/EC 2018/851, shaping practices across its member states. Currently, 30% of EU’s municipal is recycled, 19% composted, 23% incinerated, landfilled. However, regional variations exist within EU, with Greece other Mediterranean/Balkan nations favoring landfilling, while Germany Western/Central EU prioritize composting, Nordic countries lean toward incineration. To address these differences, a new sustainability point system was created in order to evaluate compare all different strategies members. Notably, like Germany, Netherlands, Sweden score highest due low generation, high rates (>35%), minimal landfilling (<1%), significant In contrast, Cyprus, Malta, lower landfill reliance rates. Therefore, this study introduces novel mitigate disparities, highlighting need for targeted interventions policy initiatives at national levels. By leveraging insights, policymakers can allocate resources effectively, foster collaboration, motivate citizens achieve common environmental goals as well Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

This work investigates the potential for harvesting hydraulic energy from water flow to create a self-sustainable measurement device Internet of Things (IoT) applications. A prototype circuit with microturbine harvesting, sensor, microcontroller, and power management circuits was developed. Experiments measured generated versus consumed by system under different operating conditions. Results showed could generate around 1W flows above 2.5 L/min, sufficient recharge its battery continuously. The system's average consumption reduced up 54.5% strategies like low-power sleep modes optimized data transmission intervals.
