Improving the sexual health of women with disabilities in sub-Saharan Africa: a scoping review of published studies

Abstract
Background
An
essential
aspect
of
human
well-being
is
positive
sexual
health
outcomes.
However,
the
issue
adverse
outcomes
continues
to
be
a
major
public
concern,
particularly
for
women
with
disabilities
in
sub-Saharan
Africa
(SSA).
Therefore,
this
current
scoping
review
mapped
studies
conducted
last
twenty-nine
years
on
from
these
five
dimensions:
activity,
contraceptive
use,
autonomy,
violence
and
risky
behaviour,
whilst
seeking
identify
state
knowledge
address
study
gaps
SSA.
Methods
This
was
informed
by
methodological
framework
proposed
Arksey
O’Malley.
Exploratory
searches
were
PubMed,
Web
Science,
African
Journals
Online,
etc.,
SSA
that

utilised
qualitative
approach,
three
employed
mixed-methods
analysis.
Two
ten
four
violence,
one
no
autonomy
Conclusion
showed
there
few
or
scarce
even
where
substantial
(contraceptive
use),
majority
country.
Future
should
consider
examining
dimensions
health,
such
as
activity
not
available
literature.
