Livelihood diversification (LD) is crucial for rural households due to increasing climate variability and declining farm incomes in the global south. Literature has extensively documented benefits of LD emerging economies. However, there still a gap econometric evidence on food security Ghana. This study addresses this by examining factors that influence using Ghana Living Standards Survey (GLSS 7) data collected from 133 Northern Results censored Tobit regression model, multiple linear regression, Simpson Diversification Index (SDI) indicated averaged 0.313 ranged 0.000 0.709 (zero 70.9%). Abstract Food insecurity remains a significant developmental challenge, particularly in rural areas, despite ongoing efforts to mitigate it. To better understand the persistence of this issue, study investigates causes household food and coping strategies employed by households Zorkor Goo, Kanga, Kadaare communities within Bongo District Ghana’s Upper East Region. A descriptive cross-sectional survey was conducted, sampling 196 systematically from these communities. Data were collected through structured questionnaire covering socio-demographic factors, insecurity, strategies, dietary intake. The analysis performed using SPSS (Version 21.0), with security status intake assessed via FANTA Household Insecurity Access Scale (HFIAS) Consumption Score, respectively. identified key factors contributing including soil infertility, poor rainfall patterns, spoilage, extravagant funerals, large family size, high unemployment, lack education. Major among included meal skipping, reducing size frequency, migration, asset sales, basket weaving. findings revealed that 96.4% severely insecure, over two-thirds (67.3%) exhibited consumption. Notably, employment levels, education, consumption scores significantly associated (P < 0.001). These underscore need for targeted interventions addressing root enhancing resilience
