In anurans, vocalisations are the main behavioural modality of communication. Hence, description acoustic signals in anurans is important for understanding many aspects their biology. We describe first time advertisement calls eight glass frog species (Centrolene antioquiensis, "Centrolene" robledoi, Nymphargus caucanus, N. chami, ignotus, rosada, spilotus, Sachatamia orejuela) and provide additional data on recently described Espadarana audax. addition, we review current knowledge all (Centrolenidae). Based predominant temporal spectral structure, identified three major types family: 1) consisting unpulsed short notes with amplitude modulation, similar to a 'Tic', 2) one long note (whistled) without 'Tii' 3) pulsed or pulsatile notes, 'Trii'. mapped these characters context evolutionary history Centrolenidae. Descriptions presented here offer evidence recognise most centrolenid using measurable field laboratory. As such, hope stimulate future studies based bioacoustical analysis this widespread highly diverse Neotropical clade.

ABSTRACTStudying intraspecific geographic variation in communication signals represents a good approach to understand the evolution of species diversification animals. The poison frog Andinobates bombetes (Dendrobatidae) exhibits spectral traits its advertisement call. However, it is still unknown whether there concomitant temporal call traits, and somehow linked differences warning coloration (red yellow morphs). We analyzed calls recorded from 100 males belonging twelve populations A. bombetes: nine bearing red coloration, three one. After controlling for eventual effects temperature body size we found both yet such was unrelated between populations. Previous research indicated that properties this can be explained by acoustic abiotic environment. Nonetheless, positive relationship distance divergence also supports role genetic drift signaling bombetes.KEYWORDS: Acoustic communicationanuraDendrobatidaegeographic variationpolytypism AcknowledgmentsWe thank Corporación Serraniagua, especially C. The advertisement calls that frogs emit in a reproductive context are among the most conspicuous and studied acoustic signals. They play significant role interspecific recognition, mate selection, territoriality can be used different fields such as taxonomy, ethology, ecology, evolutionary studies. In Colombia, around 40% of recognized frog species have descriptions their literature. However, Cordillera Occidental tropical Andes Strabomantidae family underrepresented literature despite huge diversity they hold. Here, we described eleven belonging to three families from localities at high elevations Occidental, which been inaccessible scientific research due security concerns. We describe five Pristimantis for first time estimated daily activity patterns four species. Our findings enhance number known anuran one least-represented regions country. addition, provide important information regarding natural history could baseline future long-term population

The Atelopus (or harlequin frogs) have become a symbol of the ongoing efforts to conserve biodiversity in Ecuador over past few decades. ignescens , also known as jambato, was previously considered be an extinct species until it rediscovered Andean locality Angamarca, Ecuador. This study presents and describes calls for first time. These are low intensity sounds that comprise repertoire three distinct call types: tonal, short pulsed call. They different spectral temporal characteristics. most notable difference their structure is presence or absence pulses frequency modulation observed tonal calls. In terms characteristics, mean dominant 1.7 kHz, with up 11 harmonics visible. A peculiar feature Jambato tympanic middle ear, characteristic majority species. these structures, however, does not toads deaf since they seem extratympanic mechanisms audition. It our hope contribution will stimulate further research into bioacoustics behavior this endangered relatively unknown group anurans.

We describe the advertisement call of Pristimantis zophus, a small and endemic Colombian rainfrog distributed throughout cloud forests northern region Western Andes. analyzed 163 calls from six males. The P. zophus is relatively simple, short, with duration 0.227 ± 0.126 s (0.090–0.415), consists one or two notes single pulse dominant frequency 2.97 0.100 (2.72–3.21 kHz). In addition, we briefly discuss aspects variation report some observations natural history this species.

ABSTRACTIn a fast-changing environment, it is important to keep track of biodiversity. In Mexico, new herpetofauna described every year. Vocalisations can portray ecological and evolutionary characteristics for better understanding species. Here, we lay out the current state knowledge on advertisement calls Mexican anurans, as well publication trends use metadata through an exhaustive literature review bibliometric analysis. We obtained 174 documents with call descriptions 58.4% anuran species published between 1940–2021. identified that most are distributed in Neotropics belong endemic endangered categories. Anuran publications frequently accompanied by associated data such relative humidity, frequency, or recording format. The mean number recorded per description was 12.568 (of 38). Although almost half have descriptions, several gaps, particularly degree information each contains. Furthermore, studies were performed outside Mexico foreign researchers, despite high level endemism country. highlight need more detailed researchers.KEYWORDS: VocalisationsanuransMexicoecoacousticsbioacousticscollections AcknowledgementsThis paper part requirements obtain master's from Posgrado en Ciencias Biológicas at Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. thank Dr. Roberto Sosa-López Dra.
