Since
the
invention
and
further
development
of
lasers
in
1960s,
photonics
has
grown
into
a
field
that
permeates
virtually
every
aspect
modern
life.
As
deals
with
generation,
transmission,
modulation,
amplification,
conversion,
detection
light,
glasses
have
played
crucial
central
roles
multitude
applications
given
glasses'
diverse
range
compositions,
properties,
forms.
They
are

low-cost

Abstract
The
development
of
high-power
diode
lasers
enabled
new
solid-state
laser
concepts
such
as
thin-disk,
fiber,
and
Innoslab
based
on
trivalent
ytterbium
the
laser-active
ion,
which
resulted
in
a
tremendous
increase
efficiency
beam
quality
cw
compared
to
previously
used
lamp-pumped
rod
or
slab
realization
ultrafast
with
several
100
W
even
kilowatts
average
power.
In
addition
their
beneficial
thermo-optical
properties,
these
architectures
offer
characteristic
benefits
making
them
especially
suitable

Abstract
Optical
fiber‐based
lasers
and
amplifiers

ubiquitous

practical
applications

of
optical
power
is

into
heat,
