Abstract As part of the 2021 (delayed until 2022 due to COVID) biennial conference Association Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP), a pre-conference workshop on topic Ernst Boyer's four-pillar model academic scholarship in higher education (i.e., discovery, integration, engagement, science teaching learning) was delivered 32 participants. The had three objectives, namely: 1) raising awareness education; 2) applying evaluate participants' own work; 3) leading institutional change by sharing back home. To achieve these four activities were undertaken, including: review educational materials introducing (view video share discussion board); on-site expert testimony clarifying (brief lectures speakers); hands-on, small-group work (employing career cartography Model); 4) post-conference sharing, expert-coaching, peer-encouragement as participants engaged Assessment knowledge, skills, attitudes undertaken using an on-site, anonymous, voluntary readiness assessment test (RAT) well comprehension (CAT0), administered immediately preceding following portion workshop, respectively. support long-term adoption Model, moderator provided mentoring/coaching months completion workshop. value this assessed through collection additional feedback identifying Best, Worst, ways Improve purpose paper is share: content format that could be used other conveners similar workshops; results analysis RAT, CAT0, feedback; authors' experience with education, which contribute suggestions for module introduce Model graduate students early mid-career faculty environmental engineering.

The Anthropocene, the current geological age where human activity is dominant influence on environment, creates a global challenge to achieving United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). purpose of this article raise awareness that dire situation facing unlikely success SDGs by 2030 not dissimilar from faced world in meeting Millennium (MDGs). full range professionals who operate as "humanitarian technologists" – including nurses and engineers must: 1) recall two axioms Florence Nightingale's environmental theory (i.e., man's natural state healthy humanitarian technologists modifies environment restore health); 2) adopt holistic lens, which interrelates prosperity, people, planet, peace, partnership science diplomacy solve cycles disaster, recovery, sustainable development for beyond. Building upon our prior definition technologists", we encourage interprofessional health practice education extent licensure capability achieve SDGs.

Did the NAE Changing the Conversation Campaign Introduce the Care Penalty into Engineering? DOI Open Access

Abstract Over the past twenty years, National Academy of Engineering United States America undertook a campaign entitled, "Changing Conversation." Explicit intentions included raising public awareness engineering, increasing total number engineers, and recruiting historically underrepresented groups to join engineering. In particular, marketing efforts developed inclusive "tag lines" aimed diversify enrolled in engineering increase diversity professional workforce. While changes demographics were disappointing for some (i.e., little no change was observed people color), generally, has been considered moderately successful females joining This is speculated be associated with use tag lines that helped "humanize engineering" emphasizing "people helping" aspects rather than "building things" engineering).
