Abstract Purpose This study describes the ocular findings in dogs and cats diagnosed with Florida spot keratopathy (FSK) at a single institution. Methods Affected animals underwent comprehensive ophthalmic examination, no follow‐ups conducted. Data on patient demographics clinical were collected analyzed. Results Based presence of round, white, fluorescein negative anterior stromal lesions, FSK was 84 16 cats, mean ± SD ages 6.5 3.7 5.9 4.6 years, respectively. presenting complaint 18% 12.5% cats. Most patients had unilateral 57% dog eyes 55% cat having more than three lesions per eye. Lesions varied size (0.5–7.6 mm dogs, pinpoint to 5 cats) predominantly located central cornea while scattered throughout Progression reported just 4% 6% transient irritation Owners little fire ants (LFA) vicinity 21% 38% Conclusions should be considered differential diagnosis for most being non‐progressive. While an association LFA has been suggested both humans, this link remains speculative not confirmed by rigorous academic research.

The little fire ant ( Wasmannia auropunctata ), notable for its minute size and painful sting, has emerged as a significant threat in Mediterranean Europe. This widespread exotic species is well-known because of invasive nature, impacting biodiversity, public health, economic activities. Noted the first time Málaga (S Spain) 2018, it since expanded to other locations same province. Here we report presence W. La Marina (Alacant province, SE Spain), representing fifth recorded population on Iberian Peninsula occurrence outside was found infesting coastal area approximately 5.1 hectares, with workers being observed foraging trails across multiple surfaces living dense concentrations both indoors outdoors. Exclusion native within occupied direct engagement combat observed. discovered September 2024; however, based infestation density, spatial extent, comparison data populations, likely established region prior 2019. For Iberia, also detected dunes adjacent infested urbanised area, highlighting potential adaptability dry habitats. resilience , combined aggressive traits propensity underscores urgent need integrated management strategies limit further expansion Iberia.

Wasmannia auropunctata , also known as the ‘little fire ant’ or ‘electric ant’, is an invasive species that represents a serious threat to biodiversity and public health globally due its intrinsic characteristics low detectability. Here, through combination of morphological molecular identification, first record this in oceanic archipelago Canary Islands presented. Molecular data reveal population from completely different another established Málaga (mainland Spain), which suggests western Palearctic has been colonised at least two independent events. The early detection very limited area provides important temporal window for eradication prevention dispersal other areas.

Ants belonging to the genus Solenopsis are highly significant invasive pests worldwide. The control of these insects has historically relied on use synthetic insecticides, which, unfortunately, led a range ecological repercussions. In light challenges and limited availability registered products for managing pests, our study set out synthesize assess insecticidal properties carvacrol derivatives. lethal sublethal effects caused by derivatives were compared essential oil Lippia gracilis (50.7% carvacrol) base molecule—carvacrol. Carvacryl benzoate was most toxic derivative sp., with an LD50 3.20 μg/ mg. Invasive ants pose a risk to human well-being and social/ecosystem stability. Linepithema humile Mayr is among the most damaging invasive worldwide. Most L. populations invade ports/wharfs isolated from surrounding landscapes, but unfortunately, new population was discovered in an inland urban area (Nara Prefecture) of Japan 2021. In this study, first, supercolony type Nara identified via hostility test, then its distribution pattern characterized. aggression tests between four supercolonies (haplotypes LH1, LH2, LH3, LH4), ant showed extremely strong against all exept which detected only introduced range. Nara, abundant around river. Simulations revealed that using environment for movement/dispersal increased annual dispersal ability by 14 times compared with achieved ground (125 m), as mentioned literature. Therefore, river channels can serve major pathways long-distance invading areas. Since applying chemical strategies rivers problematic, preventing moving initial invasion sites crucial.
