Throughout their lives, organisms must integrate and maintain stability across complex developmental, morphological, physiological systems, all while responding to changing internal external environments. Determining the mechanisms underlying organismal responses environmental change development is a major challenge for biology. This particularly important in face of rapidly global climate, increasing human populations, habitat destruction. In January 2024, we organized symposium highlight some current efforts use modeling understand short- long-term changes Our goal was facilitate collaboration communication between modelers biologists, which one aims Organismal Systems-type Modeling Research Coordination Network, OSyM. Accompanying this introduction are series papers that aimed enhance research education linking biology contribute building new community scientists tackle questions using approach.
