Abstract A new species of freshwater crayfish, Euastacus coughrani sp. nov., is described from the Bemm, Brodribb and Queensborough River catchments in eastern Victoria, Australia. nov. inhabits perennial, small to medium, cool-flowing streams through a range forest ecosystems including ancient wet eucalypt forests, cool warm temperate rainforests at elevations between 251 m 1050 m. The species’ restricted extent occurrence (422 km²) supports conservation status Endangered. Morphologically, E. closely related diversus bidawalus represents genetically distinct population distributed two. This can be distinguished its congeners by morphology thorax, abdomen, chelae gastric mill. Detailed insights into ecology, biology, are provided herein facilitate guide future management endeavors.
