ABSTRACT The global resurgence of bed bugs ( Cimex lectularius L. and hemipterus [F.]) over the past 25 years has presented significant challenges to pest management industry, with insecticide resistance as a leading cause control failures. This review provides synthesis bug research from 2018 present, highlighting profiles, mechanisms, strategies. Resistance pyrethroids, neonicotinoids, organophosphates, carbamates, other insecticides is widespread, documented cases metabolic (cytochrome P450s, esterases, glutathione S‐transferase ABC transporters), target site insensitivity (point mutations in voltage‐gated sodium channel genes [ kdr ], paralogous acetylcholinesterase gene p‐Ace ), GABA receptor rdl ]), penetration (cuticular thickening), symbiont‐mediated resistance. paper also reviews effective options against insecticide‐resistant bugs, including mixtures synergists, entomopathogenic fungi Beauveria bassiana physical methods such heat treatment, desiccant dust, fumigation. Additionally, novel approaches, RNA interference baits, provide new directions but require further research. Lastly, socio‐economic disparities affect management, especially lower‐income communities.

Pyrethroids and neonicotinoids are commonly used to manage the common bed bug (Cimex lectularius L.) infestations. However, effectiveness of these insecticides is often challenged due insecticide resistance. We investigated mechanisms deltamethrin imidacloprid resistance in eight C. strains collected from New Jersey, U.S. Piperonyl butoxide (PBO), S,S,S-tributyl phosphorotrithioate (DEF), diethyl maleate (DEM) were topically applied on bugs before or treatments (deltamethrin: 115 ng per adult; imidacloprid: 67 adult). The results showed that PBO DEF had a greater synergistic effect with than DEM based significantly increased 72 h mortality Aberdeen, Bayonne 2015, Cotton, Irvington, Irvington 624-5G strains. With alone, seven out experienced 100 % except for Linden 2019 strain. strain mean mortalities 93, 97, 47 after receiving PBO, DEF, DEM, respectively. activities glutathione S-transferase general esterase all enhanced compared susceptible Molecular detection voltage-gated sodium channel (VGSC) mutations revealed homozygous V419L L925I at 20-100 30-100 frequency, presence both was found individuals each resistant indicate combination metabolic target site insensitivity confers lectularius.
