Abstract The contemporary work environment is characterized by frequent transitions throughout an individual’s career. A relatively recent trend concerns established professionals relocating in newly emerging occupations. Despite the extensive research conducted on construction of professional identity, there still a dearth knowledge regarding how occupational identity formed. aim this study to gain deeper understanding process through which (re)construct their when making career transition occupation. Drawing twenty-seven interviews with accounting and law enforcement fields who have transitioned antifraud occupation, we explore they navigate tensions between different aspirational, professional, expected identities, employ strategies establish or blur boundaries define identity. This offers coherent constructed shaped interaction multiple identities. contributes literature developing more nuanced boundary that construct during transition. Further, our underscores pivotal concern maintenance professionalism as move into nascent roles. In such circumstances, definition may be less clearly delineated, establishment rule-setting primarily determined organization’s management, thus curtailing autonomy traditionally associated professionalism.
