Abstract Stink bugs are invaluable models for macroevolutionary investigations owing to their astonishing ecological and morphological diversity. Nevertheless, such studies have been hampered by the absence of a solid phylogenetic hypothesis. Morphological molecular based on Sanger data found no consensus position Pentatomidae, deep relationships within family poorly resolved. These persistent uncertainties cast systematics stink into metaphorical realm Pandora’s Box. Here, I conduct first phylogenomic study focusing pentatomids. Using public data, aimed at testing power genome-scale resolve address controversial Pentatomoidea. Based dataset 40 taxa over 1,900 proteins, my results indicate Pentatomidae as sister group all remaining families Pentatomoidea, with an uncertainty whether Plataspididae is included in this clade. Within analyses confirm some previous findings, monophyly Asopinae relationship between Nezarini Antestiini. On other hand, most were strikingly different from works, example, Podopinae Paleartic Carpocorini. My that addition massive amounts may help achieve better supported trees allies. argue stable phylogeny-based classification will only be achieved increased employment -omics data.
