The identification of societal impacts resulting from interdisciplinary research is a complex task. This complexity particularly evident for agricultural research, which strives to mitigate trade-offs between production and multiple targets, including food provision, ecosystem services, soil biodiversity conservation, climate action rural development, all contributing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To address this issue, article presents an Impact Mapping Framework systematically assessing such impacts. use case on health shows how ZALF, landscape institute in Germany, uses framework map its activities their contributions towards improvement services biodiversity, SDGs. presented circular format, with mapped outermost circle SDGs center. provides step-by-step instructions applying impact mapping supplementary Map Table. Abstract This study proposes a mission-oriented framework for funding public research institutions (PRIs). Using multi-case approach and focus group interviews, comprehensive was developed refined. The encompasses three main dimensions: mechanisms, the amount of government funding, organizational arrangements resource allocation. It introduces diversified mechanisms PRIs, including block grants, performance-based contracts, competitive targeted allocations specific missions, excellence budgets. proportion each mechanism in portfolio can vary depending on mission types PRIs. recommends estimating amounts using per capita formulas based relevant input/output indicators tailored to Clear are essential, establishing national agency oversee estimation, steering, monitoring financial allocation utilization.

Abstract The field of research impact assessment (RIA) has seen remarkable growth over the past three decades. Increasing numbers RIA frameworks have been developed and applied by funders new technologies can capture some impacts automatically. However, RIAs are too different to draw comparable conclusions about what type methods, data or processes best suited assess kinds, how should most efficiently implement RIAs. To usher in next era mature field, future methodologies become more transparent, standardized easily implementable. Key these efforts is an improved understanding practically report on at funder-level. Our aim address this gap through two major contributions. First, we identify common items across existing practice guidelines for RIA, creating a preliminary reporting checklist reporting. Next, systematically reviewed studies examining funders’ biomedical grant portfolios examine reported results their checklist, as well operational steps took perform variation implemented same frameworks. We compare evidence current practices with good reporting, gaps base research, recommendations effective RIA.
