-Phylogenomics allows us to uncover the historical signal of evolutionary processes through time and estimate phylogenetic networks accounting for these signals. Insight from genome-wide data further pinpoint contributions hybridization, introgression, ancestral polymorphism across genome. We address instability rattlesnake phylogeny using genomic generated transcriptomes sampled nearly all known species. These data, analyzed with coalescent network-based approaches, reveal instances rapid speciation where individual gene trees conflict species tree. The taxonomic status of the zooplanktivorous cichlids Copadichromis mloto and C. virginalis has been confused since their original descriptions by lles in 1960. Whilst two forms virginalis, 'Kaduna' 'Kajose', were distinguished type material, not positively identified its description. Here we re-examined types as well 54 recently collected specimens from multiple sampling locations. Genome sequencing 51 recent revealed closely related but reciprocally monophyletic clades. Geometric morphological analysis indicated that one clade morphologically encompasses Iles Kaduna form, including holotype, whilst other only paratypes Kajose also series mloto. Given all three Iles's are same locality, there no meristic or character states to differentiate them records adult male breeding colours, conclude form previously represents relatively deeper bodied sexually active maturing individuals mloto. The online version contains supplementary material available at 10.1007/s10750-022-05025-1.

Whole Genome Data Confirm Pervasive Gene Discordance in the Evolutionary History of Coenonympha (Nymphalidae) Butterflies DOI

Phylogenetic inference is challenged by genealogical heterogeneity amongst genetic markers. Such discordance driven predominantly incomplete lineage sorting (ILS) and interspecific gene flow, bears attendant consequences for the accurate resolution of species relationships. Understanding distribution conflict in organismal genomes is, therefore, a key aspect phylogenetic analysis. In this study, three large phylogenomic datasets (i.e., whole mitogenomes, conserved nuclear protein-coding loci, genomic windows) are used to probe extent which pervades unresolved phylogeny Coenonympha (Nymphalidae) butterflies. Discordance found be elevated at multiple historically recalcitrant positions. particular, relationships near crown within rapidly diversifying subclade (the hero group) remain difficult resolve, suggesting that ILS flow have obscured evolution genus. These findings implications taxonomy butterfly group study its diversification history. addition, work lends support growing body evidence biological processes stands confound phylogeny, even when extensive data used.

The composition of Australia's fauna and flora has been largely assembled by two biogeographic processes, vicariance long-distance dispersal establishment.
