Ulcerative colitis (UC) is a chronic intestinal inflammation that prone to relapse and difficult fully recover; therefore, there need for safer alternative treatments. Caffeic acid (CA) natural polyphenolic compound has antioxidant anti-inflammatory properties. However, the beneficial effects mechanisms of action CA in UC remain unclear. This study evaluated protective effect against dextran sulfate sodium (DSS)-induced injury Drosophila melanogaster model. Oral administration significantly reduced body damage flies, improved their survival rate, restored damaged digestion, locomotion. supplementation alleviated flies by restoring excretion balance, repairing atrophy, improving acid-base balance imbalance, inhibiting structural destruction, epithelial cell death stem (ISC) excessive proliferation, reducing number harmful bacteria. Mechanistic studies found expression Toll Imd pathway genes (including Myd88, Dif, PGRP-LC, Imd, Rel, Dpt), ROS levels apoptosis-related (Debcl, Cyt-c-p, DrlCE, Dronc, Dark), increased ATP MFN2 levels. mainly signaling pathways apoptosis mediated mitochondrial damage. These findings suggest holds promise as potential therapeutic treatment.
